10 Of The Best Chew Treats To Keep Your Dog Extra Busy

10 Of The Best Chew Treats To Keep Your Dog Extra Busy

Keeping your pooch busy and mentally stimulated is crucial to their happiness (and your sanity). Some pups like toys – as long as they’re chasing a tennis ball around the house, they’re satisfied. My dogs, on the other hand, have a penchant for all things chewable. If your dog is anything like mine, they’ll probably jump for joy if you hand them one of these:

1. Benebone

This is my personal favorite because it’s actually a flavored toy that’s not ingestible. Whether your dog likes bacon-flavored or peanut butter-flavored, they’ll probably have something that your pup will love. These are specifically designed so that it’s easier for dogs to get leverage with their own paws. My pups chew on these for days… literally. You can find these easily on BarkShop!

2. Himalayan Dog Chews

These are great but can be notoriously pricey! BarkShop has a great Yak Chew that’s all natural and only $11. Some pet stores also sell Himalayan Dog Chew Holders, which make it more difficult for your pup to devour these treats. When they get down to a size that’s small enough, I microwave them for a few seconds and they blow up in size – ideal if you’re afraid your dog will choke on the smaller piece.

3. Cow/Pig Ears

Cow / Pig Ears are delicious and great for pups who can’t handle the harder stuff. The folks at SawMill Creek produce a slow-dried Half Pig Ear that is super-tasty and currently available in the BarkShop.

4. Bully Sticks

There are so many brands of bully sticks out there. BarkShop sells an all-natural, odor-free one that my dogs goes absolutely bonkers for. They’re also 100% digestible and made from American born and raised cattle (USDA certified). Wrap these in a toy like this Veggout one to make it even more difficult for your pup!

5. Natural Cow Hooves

These can smell too, but not as bad as some bully sticks. Be sure to look for ones sourced and made in the USA (this goes for all beef products, really). The size is pretty perfect for a smaller or medium dog, and these are great for dental care.

6. Raw Beef Bones

Raw bones are always a great go-to chew. You can find raw beef bones at the grocery store for extremely cheap. Feeding cooked bones can be dangerous for pups (they could splinter and injure your dogs while he’s chewing) so raw bones are usually a safer bet. Try not to get ones with too much fat on them either!

7. Elk Antlers

I love to give antlers because they’re one of the most clean chews to give! No greasy or stinky mess left behind. These are a great source of vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, zinc, manganese and potassium. These are also great for dental health, keeping tartar knocked down on teeth.

8. Water Buffalo bully horn

You can find these in a variety of sizes, from small to large. High in protein and low in fat, these are extremely long lasting chews that don’t smell too bad either.

9. Beef Tail Chews

Castor & Pollux makes great odorless beef tail chews, but these are definitely not as long-lasting as a bully horn or cow hoof. Again, wrapping one of these up in a puzzle toy will make it last a lot longer!

10. Trachea

These chews are another great, natural option! You can usually find these in 9″ varieties. They are hollow and pretty tough, so they do last quite a while. Beef trachea are high in chondroitin and glucosamine which can help promote healthy joints in dogs.
